#BlackHomeschoolingTips: The First Step is All You Need

The first step is all you need.

Every week I receive several emails from potential homeschool parents asking for all the steps they need to take to begin homeschooling. Most of them want every detail before they embark on the journey. I do my best to answer all of their questions. I even wrote a book addressing the top twenty questions and answers for Black homeschoolers.

But usually, I just want to reply, “you only need to know one step: take them out of school and get to know your child’s interest.” Ok maybe that’s two, but you get the point.

Don’t over think it. Don’t get bogged down with all the details and all the advice you’ll find online. Just get started. You are the first teacher anyway.

Divest yourself of the antiquated educational ideas you learn from your own schooling. It didn’t work for us and it probably won’t work and hasn’t been working for your children. Don’t bring the public fool system into your home and you’ll be good.

Here’s is what I know. It’s not about the steps for most folks. It’s about confidence and belief. “The only thing holding you back from where you are and where you want to be, are the perceptions you hold about yourself.” Know that you already have everything you need. Start now.
