Why am I so passionate about Afrikan-Centered Preschool?
Because it is SO important to me to show young, melanated youth the power and legacy of their melanin. When I was growing up, I found myself at first at a PWI [they can be grade schools too]. I remember at one point, when I was around 6 years old, looking down at my hands, turning one palm up and one palm down, and asking God why I was the brown side and not the palm-side. I actually feel the lump in my throat thinking about it.
My life journey has since taken me down a rabbit hole through my melanin to that of the Legends before me and surrounding me – from X to Lamumba to Angelou to Walker to Hampton to Sankara. And I carry this brown skin as a badge of honor. I wish to pass this life lesson on to every brown-skinned child I meet. I want them to know what I had not known: the power and legacy this melanin holds in our world. I am honored to be chosen by Kamali Academy to uphold this work. I am here to support your families in this work. Consider me your ally, your friend, your sister, your cousin. You are my family, and I am here to serve.

In the afternoon for 30 minutes each class day: your young warrior will have a blast talking to, hanging out, and playing with me as well as 9 other preschool friends.

Think online preschool equals “educational” video games? Not here my friend! While those can be useful, Kamali Academy Preschool Online is NOT an “educational” video game.
At our preschool, we are using the CULTIVATING WARRIORS Preschool Curriculum by Kamali Academy, an activity-based curriculum with developmentally appropriate activities that will prepare your child for kindergarten and a culturally aware life in as little as 1 hour each day! There’s no need for you to supplement curriculum at home, but you certainly can!

FAQs
Do parents have to be present?
No. You do, however, need to log your child into the online classroom at the start of each class, but then you can either stay or do other things you need to do.
What if my child is shy, active, loud, etc.?
After 7 years of teaching preschool, I think I’ve seen just about every type of child there is. I’m excited to teach your child and help him or her have a wonderful experience!
Do parents have to print things off or help outside of preschool class?
No. Our curriculum is designed to be hands-on (no worksheets) and self-contained within our 1-hour preschool class each day so you don’t have to supplement additional curriculum during the day.
What requirements do I need to participate?
You’ll need internet and a laptop or desktop computer. You can use an iPad or a phone but we don’t recommend it because it’s too hard to see everyone’s faces and actually socialize with them.
Is this an online “learning” video game or worksheet website?
No. There is NO video game or worksheet component to our online preschool program… just real, social interaction between an amazing preschool teacher (that’s ME!) and a small class of amazing preschool friends.
What platform is this using?
We use Zoom, a free platform. The links we use to join our online classroom are exclusive to our preschool families so no one else can access the online classroom. Plus, our online classroom is monitored by a teacher (that’s ME!) at all times when in use.
If you miss a class, we have you covered!
WE RECORD EVERY CLASS!
If your child isn’t able to make it to class one day, that’s okay! We’ll upload the class recordings and give you the link so your child can watch them!
